Amazon Prime Big Deal Days may be over soon, but Amazon just gave Prime members another way to save — and this one has nothing to do with shopping on Amazon.

Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days are here, with 70+ travel items on sale

I have a confession to make: I have absolutely no idea how much I spend on gas each month and don’t typically go out of my way to find the cheapest gas station. Something that my husband would say is very unlike me.

But I do know that seeing the $100+ price tag when I filled up my tank last week stung — a lot. So I did some digging to see where I can save money every time I fill up my tank. With gas prices being what they are, every little bit of savings helps.

That’s when I came across a freshly announced promotion: Amazon Prime members can save 20 cents per gallon on gas every Friday. Being a Prime member, I immediately started doing the math and realized that buying gas is about to offset some of the cost of my Amazon Prime membership.

Save 20¢ per gallon with Amazon Prime

Save money on gas with an Amazon Prime membership

Amazon has partnered with bp gas stations to give Prime members savings at participating bp, Amoco, ampm, and Thorntons locations across the U.S.

Prime members normally save 10 cents per gallon at participating locations, but through January 29th, 2027, that savings doubles to 20 cents per gallon every Friday.

The promotion, called Fuel Up Fridays, runs every Friday from October 2nd, 2026, through January 29th, 2027. You can use the discount on one fuel purchase each Friday, up to 35 gallons. So if you’re reading this now, there are still 17 Fridays left to take advantage of!

But to participate, you’ll need an Amazon Prime membership and link it to earnify, bp’s app. You can register here, which is extremely simple and takes just a few minutes. At the pump, you can then use your phone number associated with your account or the earnify app.

And once the promotion ends, Prime members will still continue to receive the regular 10-cent-per-gallon savings at participating locations.

Here's how much I can actually save

There's a bp station near my home, so it's a convenient place for me to fill up anyway. But I did some checking against other gas stations and the gas there isn't exactly a bargain. It's currently about 3 cents more per gallon than a station on the other side of town.

Instead, I'm looking at the real savings compared with where I would otherwise fill up.

Let's say I put about 12 gallons of gas in my car on a typical Friday.

At 20 cents off per gallon, that's $2.40 in savings.

But because the bp station costs about 3 cents more per gallon than the other station I'd consider, I'm really saving about 17 cents per gallon compared with driving across town:

12 gallons × 17 cents = $2.04 in net savings.

Of course this isn’t going to fund my vacation, but if I do this every Friday for the next 17 weeks, that's about $34.68 in savings. Especially because I was going to buy the gas anyway.

And, on other days of the week — or after the promotion ends — I can still save 10 cents a gallon with my Amazon Prime membership.

Amazon Prime paying for itself

An annual Amazon Prime membership costs $139, and with my approximate $34.68 in savings, that’s about a quarter of the membership cost.

Of course, there are some caveats here.

I’m probably not going to drive out of my way to buy more expensive gas just because Amazon is offering me 20 cents off. And I'm certainly not going to skip a cheaper Costco gas station if I'm already there — although that’s about 20 minutes away from my house, so by no means my normal go-to.

But for my situation, the bp station is actually quite convenient. And if I'm already going to fill up at the bp near my house, I'm going to take the discount.

Don't have Amazon Prime yet?

If you don't already have Prime, this promotion could be a good reason to give it a try — on top of being able to take advantage of today’s Prime Big Deal Days, as well as snagging some good offers next month with Black Friday.

An Amazon Prime membership currently costs $139 per year when you pay annually or $14.99 per month. Eligible customers can also start with a free 30-day trial.

Young adults ages 18 to 24 years old have an even better option: Membership is 50% off at only $69 per year (or $7.49 per month), with eligible members getting the first six months for $0.

A small win I’ll take every Friday

I'm not going to pretend that saving 20 cents a gallon is going to change my life. But it’s a few dollars in savings — each week — that I didn’t have before.

And if I'm already paying for Amazon Prime, already driving past a participating bp station and already need gas, I'm going to take every penny of savings Amazon is willing to give me.
