In a world where premium travel credit cards are getting increasingly expensive — with some clocking in at nearly $900 per year — there’s one card that bucks the trend.

The Capital One Venture X Credit Card offers many of the high-end perks that travelers come to expect from a “premium” product. However, it has a very palatable (and, dare we say, affordable) $395 annual fee.

It's also currently offering its highest-ever welcome bonus, making now the perfect time to take a closer look. Let’s dive into a few reasons why the Venture X card is an incredible value.

Premium perks for a reasonable fee

The Venture X threads a rare needle: It’s a top-tier credit card that keeps its annual price low enough to make sense for even infrequent travelers. And unlike some other companies that require you to jump through hoops to leverage benefits, Capital One keeps things simple.

Two built-in benefits make the math work from day one. First, there’s a $300 annual travel credit when booking through Capital One Travel, an easy-to-use portal for hotels, flights, rental cars, and more.

Cardholders also receive a 10,000-mile anniversary bonus each year starting on the first anniversary (worth at least $100 toward travel at a penny per Mile).

Simply put, if a Venture X cardholder uses the travel credit and the anniversary Miles, they’ve effectively covered the entirety of the annual fee. And that doesn’t even get into all the other benefits.

Besides lounge access (we’ll get into that below), the card reimburses up to $120 for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry every four years, and comes with Hertz President’s Circle status — useful when you want a wider pick of cars and to skip the rental car counter at the airport.

An unbeatable sign-up bonus

That's not even mentioning the card's welcome offer, which is currently extra enticing. For a limited time, you can earn 100,000 bonus Miles once you spend $10,000 on purchases within the first 6 months from account opening.

Those 100,000 Miles are worth $1,000 towards travel when you redeem them through Capital One, and they can be even more valuable if you move them over to the program's transfer partners like Air Canada, British Airways, and Air France/KLM Flying Blue.

A growing airport lounge network

In 2021, Capital One debuted its first airport lounge at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Since then, the company has steadily grown its network with locations at Dulles International Airport (IAD), Denver International Airport (DEN), Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas, and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

In addition, the issuer operates something known as the Capital One Landing at Washington, D.C.'s Reagan National Airport (DCA), a culinary concept separate from the lounge network. Think: sit-down dining and cocktails from award-winning chefs.

Capital One might have been a latecomer to the airport lounge game, but its debut was worth the wait. Many travelers say that the dining options match or surpass other lounges with a strong emphasis on local ingredients and regional sourcing. Cardholders also get a Priority Pass membership, useful for third-party lounges worldwide.

Simplicity at its core

Venture X makes earning rewards incredibly straightforward. Every purchase earns at least double points: 2x Miles on all purchases, but a whopping 5x on flights and 10x on hotels and rental cars booked via Capital One Travel.

As mentioned, cardholders receive $300 to book travel through Capital One Travel, and it’s actually an intuitive process. The credit automatically appears at checkout, whether that’s booking a flight, hotel, or rental car, and it resets on each anniversary of having the Venture X. Similarly, no work is required for the 10,000-mile annual bonus — that’ll also show up in your account every year.

Add in that Capital One doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees, and the card becomes a realistic option for both everyday use and international trips.

Finally, as a Visa Infinite card, the Venture X layers on practical travel coverage like trip cancellation/interruption, trip delay, and baggage delay benefits for covered reasons. You’ll also find cellphone protection when you pay your bill with the card.

Should you get the Capital One Venture X?

All told, the Capital One Venture X delivers a rare mix of premium benefits, simple earning, and real-world value. Add in the elevated 100,000-mile welcome bonus — which won’t be around for long — and the upfront payoff is hard to ignore.

For anyone looking to travel more comfortably and more affordably, this limited-time offer is well worth grabbing before it’s gone.
