Frontier’s $69 status hack could pay for itself on your first trip

Frontier Airlines is offering what might be one of the smartest travel deals of 2025 — especially for frequent domestic flyers.

This ultra-low-cost carrier is best known for its eye-catching $19 fares and stripped-down service, where nearly everything comes with a fee — from bags and seat assignments to even printing your boarding pass at the airport.

But Frontier is looking to move beyond its nickel-and-dime reputation with a surprisingly generous promotion open to frequent flyer members of several U.S. airlines — no elite status required. Here’s how.

Frontier status match details

For just $69, frequent flyer members of Alaska Mileage Plan, JetBlue TrueBlue, Spirit Free Spirit, and Southwest Rapid Rewards can upgrade to Frontier Airlines Gold elite status. Once approved, your perks kick in immediately and last through December 31, 2026, which is nearly a year and a half of upgraded travel.

Here’s what Frontier Gold status gets you every time you fly with the airline:

  • Free carry-on bag
  • Complimentary upgrades to Frontier’s UpFront extra-legroom seats (if available within 4 hours of departure)
  • Free seat assignment at booking
  • Zone 1 priority boarding and access to enhanced customer service

You don’t need elite status on any of these four airlines to participate. Simply having a mileage account active before August 18, 2025, will make you eligible to take part.

Frontier hasn’t announced an end date to this status match promotion, but it’s being billed as a “limited-time offer.” If you’re interested, it’s best to act quickly before it disappears. You can apply here with your name, email address, and current airline loyalty details.

Why you should hop on this deal

Elite status is usually earned the hard way, by spending thousands on airfare or logging endless hours in the sky. This shortcut lets you buy those perks outright for less than the surcharges on a typical Frontier flight.

Even one flight could offset the $69 investment. While every passenger on Frontier gets a free personal item (like a backpack), a carry-on bag usually runs $40 to $60 each way, depending on when you pay for it. That means a round-trip flight with just a carry-on bag already saves you money as a Gold member.

On top of that, seat selection normally comes with an added charge. Being able to lock in your preferred aisle or window at no cost and even score extra legroom seats when available totally transforms the Frontier experience. Suddenly, that $19 fare actually does cost $19, without the hidden fees tacked on.

While checked bags will still cost extra even with Frontier Gold status, it’s worth noting that the airline has an extensive domestic network. Most of its flights are super short, under 2 to 3 hours.

If you’re a carry-on-only traveler, trying out the no-frills airline experience may be worthwhile with an upgrade to Gold status. Of course, the more you fly with Frontier over the next year and a half, the more savings you can get from this $69 fee.
