Air Canada Aeroplan has long been one of my favorite airline loyalty programs. It has great airline partners, and the ability to add stopovers and book complex itineraries makes the program stand out for points and miles enthusiasts.
Aeroplan points are easy to earn, too. You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points, Bilt Points, Capital One Miles, and Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Aeroplan at a 1:1 transfer ratio, as well as earn them with the brand’s cobranded credit card.
The program updated its award chart in June 2026, devaluing some of its sweet spots, especially for long-haul business-class awards. Even so, I think there’s great value to be had.
I use the program to book award tickets a couple of times per year and have gotten tens of thousands of dollars' worth of value from it. Here’s a look at four of my favorite Aeroplan redemptions. Use them as inspiration when planning your next trip.

A great travel backpack is essential, and the best one depends on your trip. Whether you need a spacious carry-on replacement or a compact daypack, features like a laptop sleeve, water bottle holder, and multiple compartments make all the difference. From the rugged Cotopaxi to the budget-friendly Matein, there’s a backpack for every traveler’s needs. But with so many backpacks on the market, which ones are the best? Take a look at our top picks — each one packed with the features we love!
See our list of favorite backpacksAir Canada is a Star Alliance member, so you can leverage the alliance’s excellent connectivity from the U.S. to Europe with partner airlines like Austrian, Swiss, Lufthansa, and United. Even better, the program doesn’t pass on fuel surcharges, so you’re only on the hook for taxes and a $39 CAD (roughly $28) partner booking fee.
You’ll get the best deals on flights from the U.S. East Coast to Western Europe. These tickets fall into the 0 to 4,000-mile band in Aeroplan’s North America to Atlantic Zone award chart, which costs 60,000 points in business class on most partner airlines.
Meanwhile, flights between 4,001 and 6,000 miles start at 75,000 points plus taxes and fees. This includes many popular European routes from Chicago and other Midwestern cities.
The cheapest award band includes popular routes such as Newark (EWR) to London (LHR), Boston (BOS) to Zurich (ZRH), and Washington-Dulles (IAD) to Brussels (BRU). Plus, you can fly some of the best European business-class products, like Swiss business class and Lufthansa’s new Allegris business-class cabin on select planes.
Aeroplan prices tickets on Air Canada and select partners — including United Airlines — dynamically. On the program’s award chart, these awards simply have “starting at” and “median” prices, but in reality, the sky’s the limit for how high prices can go.
On the bright side, however, you can often book flights from the U.S. to Canada on Air Canada and United for low prices. For example, this flight from IAD to Toronto Billy Bishop (YTZ) costs just 7,800 points and $42 CAD (roughly $30) in taxes and fees.

You’ll have the best luck on off-peak dates. Regardless, flights departing from Canada often have high taxes and fees, so make sure to compare the cash and award rates before you book.
If your sights are set on Asia, you can book some of the world’s best business-class flights for as few as 55,000 Aeroplan points plus moderate taxes and fees. These flights are priced based on Aeroplan’s North America to Pacific Zone award chart.
The cheapest awards are for flights under 5,000 miles, including routes like Seattle (SEA) to Tokyo-Haneda (HND) and Honolulu (HNL) to Seoul (ICN). Taxes and fees vary by route, but you can expect to pay less than $150 on most awards.
Longer flights in the 5,001-7,500-mile range cost 85,000 points plus taxes and fees, while flights between 7,501 and 11,000 miles cost 102,500 points.

In case you missed it...
Travel essentials that make any hotel room feel like homeAeroplan lets you add a stopover to most one-way award tickets for just 5,000 points, in addition to the final mileage cost. The rules for adding this stopover are relaxed, too. You can add a stopover in any city outside the U.S. and Canada. A connection counts as a stopover once it exceeds 24 hours, and you can stay at your stopover city for up to 45 days.
You can book stopover itineraries online. Just select the “Multi-city/Stopover” option when searching for an award flight. The website will then prompt you to enter your origin, destination, and stopover city.
The price reflected in the search results is the total cost of your flight, according to its respective Aeroplan award chart and price band, plus 5,000 points for the stopover. The price to add a stopover remains 5,000 points regardless of your class of service.
