Should you move your Chase points to Hyatt before October 1st?

If you use Chase points for Hyatt stays, you have until September 30th to move them at the ratio you're used to.

Chase is changing the transfer ratio from the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cards to World of Hyatt from 1:1 to 4:3. The exact date it hits depends on which card you have.

That means 1,000 Chase points will get you 750 Hyatt points instead of 1,000. If you opened a Sapphire Preferred before June 15th, 2026, you keep the 1:1 ratio through September 30th. If you were approved on or after June 15th, you're already transferring at 4:3, so there's no deadline left for you. Ink Business Preferred works differently: Every cardholder keeps 1:1 through September 30th, even if you applied last week.

So, should you move your Chase points to Hyatt before the deadline? It depends on how you use your points and whether you have a Hyatt stay in mind.

• You already have a Hyatt stay in mind. If you know you'll need Hyatt points for a trip any time in the future, transferring them while you still have the 1:1 ratio will help your rewards stretch further. For example, at ​current award pricing​ a 40,000-point ​Hyatt stay​ would require 40,000 Chase points before the change but 54,000 points after it, since Chase only lets you transfer in increments of 1,000. And the points difference only gets larger for longer stays.
• You regularly use Hyatt points. If Hyatt is one of your favorite hotel programs and you know you'll use the points in the near future, locking in the current ratio can make sense. You may not use your points right away, but they'll be safe in your Hyatt account when you need them. And in the meantime, you can keep earning Chase Ultimate Rewards points to replenish your stash.

• You aren't sure how you'll use your points. Moving points to Hyatt just because the ratio is changing could leave you with a large Hyatt balance you don't need. Once you transfer points, you're committed to using them within the Hyatt program, and you can’t change your mind.
• You have the Chase Sapphire Reserve. The transfer change specifically affects the Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred. The Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business both stay at 1:1 — and because Chase lets you move points between your own accounts, holding either one alongside a Preferred or Ink card means you can shift points to the Reserve side and transfer from there at 1:1, with no deadline.
• You prefer flexibility over locking in value. A 1:1 transfer is better than 4:3, but that doesn't mean a transfer to Hyatt is automatically worthwhile. Chase points can be useful for flights, hotels, and other travel options, so keeping them flexible may be more valuable than having a larger Hyatt balance.

If you have a Hyatt stay in mind and you frequently transfer points from Chase, moving the rewards you need before October 1st could be a smart move. But if you don't have a specific use for Hyatt points, there's no reason to panic.

Keeping your Chase points where they are gives you more flexibility, and you can always transfer them to Hyatt later at the new 4:3 ratio if that's the best option for your trip.
